Mylie Jo's Birth Story
Tuesday, June 7 We went for a doctor's appointment, and when he
checked Mommy, he said the baby was still "way up there." He was concerned
that she was such a "generous size" and decided to schedule an induction for
Sunday, June 12th, if the baby didn't arrive before then. Mommy decided she
needed to pamper herself, so she went to get a pedicure and schedule an
appointment for a haircut as well. All that day she started feeling more and
more contractions, and Grammie Marci and Kathi decided they would come up early, just in case something happened. They didn't want to miss it! They drove up after work, and got here around 10:30 that night.
Wednesday, June 8 Mommy started feeling harder contractions around 12:30 in the morning, just a couple hours after Grammie and Kathi arrived. Daddy started timing them, and they were coming only about 3 minutes apart, although Mommy could still talk through them. We called the hospital to ask if we should come in, and they said to take a shower and wait and see if the contractions slowed down or not. After the shower, the contractions did slow down a little, but the pain got even worse, so we headed to the hospital at 3:00am. Because it was the middle of the night, we didn't have to worry about traffic, which was nice. Daddy kept trying to run a red light to show Mommy how much he cared, but all the lights kept turning green before we got there!
At the hospital, the nurses decided to keep Mommy in bed because her blood pressure was too high. The baby was facing "Sunny-Side Up", so it caused a Mommy to have back labor, which was really painful. As the day progressed, the nurses and Dr. Woods kept coming in to check Mommy, but the baby was still "way up there," and Mommy was making really slow progress. Sometime mid-morning, the doctor came in and broke Mommy's water to try to help speed things up. Mommy was getting very nauseated with every contraction and started to throw up a lot. The nurse said the baby's head was probably hitting Mommy's vagas nerve, which was causing the nausea. Finally, around noon, Mommy asked for some medication to take the edge off. The nurse brought her "Dope to Cope," as she called it. She explained that Mommy would still feel all the contractions, and they would still be painful, but Mommy just wouldn't care. And she was right!
The Dope-to-Cope only lasted for about an hour, and at that point Mommy asked for an Epidural. There were lots of babies being born in the hospital that day, and there was only a small window of time in which the anesthesiologist was available, so he skipped his lunch hour to come in and give Mommy the epidural. After that, she felt much better, and was able to talk to everybody in the room. Besides Grammie and Kathi, throughout the day there were lots of visitors, including Nana & Papa, Aunt Anneka, Stacey and Cheri & Darren. Everyone would watch the monitor and tell Mommy when she was having a big contraction, but she couldn't feel them at all anymore! Nor could she feel or move her legs.
This went on for a few more hours, and finally around 7:00pm, the doctor checked
Mommy again and said that the baby just wasn't coming down the way she was supposed
to. He said that in his opinion, a C-Section was probably the only answer.
Mommy was really upset about this at first, but because she had been in labor for so
long, she was ready to just have it over with! They had to wait until the Doctor
could find another Doctor to assist him in the surgery, so finally after 8:00ish,
they took Mommy and Daddy into the operating room. Daddy had to wear scrubs to go
in, and he put them on backwards at first and they choked him :). The Doctors worked
very quickly, and at 8:32pm, Mylie Jo Winters was born! Both Mommy and Daddy cried
when they saw her for the first time, which was okay because Mylie was crying too...nice
and loud! Because she had been stuck in Mommy's pelvis for so long, she had a very
LARGE cone head, and there was a ridge around her head where she couldn't fit through
anymore. But it all went away after about a day, and she is beautful!
