Mylie-isms for December
Friday, December 2 Today was Mylie's first ever Christmas party. We had
a dinner at church, and Daddy got to play the part of a wise man...or wise guy...
we haven't decided yet.
Saturday, December 3 Mylie got to spend most of the day with Daddy today
while Mommy went to orchestra rehearsal for "The Messiah." Daddy liked having
the time to spend with her.
In the afternoon, we threw a Happy Six-Month Birthday party for Mylie and all
of the babies in the New Mom's group. Unfortunately, only one other baby and
his mommy came, and they were an hour late! So, later we invited some friends
from church over to play and eat the cake.
Monday, December 5 Mommy went back to work today. She will be going into
work at The UPS Stores for most of this month to help out during the Christmas
rush. That meant that Mylie got to spend her first whole day with a babysitter!
She went with Stacey and her daughter, Madilyn, today. Madilyn is 14 months
older than Mylie, and Mylie thinks she is pretty cool. Madilyn still isn't sure
what to think of Mylie. When they were riding in the car together, Madilyn
spent most of the time hiding from Mylie under her blanket.
Mylie did pretty well with Stacey, but Mommy was dissapointed that Mylie - who
started sleeping through the night at like 8 weeks - has suddenly decided to
get up twice a night! Right in time for Mommy to go back to work!
Tuesday, December 6 Mylie went with Madilyn & Stacey again today. Luckily
for Stacey, the girls decided to alternate their naps so that she really only
had to watch one at a time. That is much easier than watching a 6 month old and a
20 month old at the same time!
Wednesday, December 7 Stacey came to work at the stores today, so she
couldn't watch Mylie. Mommy brought Mylie to the stores with her instead!
We set up one of our boxes for her to play in, but she didn't like it because
it was hard for her to see what was going on. She did finally fall asleep,
however, and slept for two hours in the box!
Thursday, December 8 Mylie is six months old today! Wow, time flies!
Today was Mommy's first day to watch Mylie & Madilyn
together, so that Stacey could go to work. Mommy was a little nervous since
she had never babysat a toddler before. Madilyn did fine in the car on the way
to our house, but as soon as Mommy got her out and set her on the ground, she
started to walk into the street, and did not want to go inside or for Mommy to
pick her up. Mommy was concerned that we'd never get inside, but all of the
sudden Madilyn got excited and started pointint toward the house saying "Kitty,
Kitty!" Mommy couldn't figure out how she could remember we had cats, until
she turned around and saw the neighbor's cat had run into our garage! That
was enough to convince Madilyn it was a pretty cool place, and she came in to
meet our other kitties. The rest of the day was uneventful, thank goodness!
Friday, December 9 Madilyn came over to play again today. Before we
went home, Mommy decided to take the girls to Costco (perhaps thinking that
yesterday was too uneventful and needing a little more excitement in her life).
Mommy thought Costco would be a good place to go since they have the double-wide
shopping carts for both girls to sit in. We got there about 10 minutes before it
opened and waited in the parking lot. Mommy got out and put Madilyn in the cart
without any problems, but as soon as she tried to put Mylie next to her, Madilyn
started screaming. Rather than force the issue, Mommy decided to hold Mylie and
push Madilyn. So now, not only did she have to carry the baby without and sort
of front back, but she had to push the GIGANTIC Costco cart with Madilyn in it,
in and out of the crazy Costco aisles. The customers gave us a mix of looks that
ranged from "Oh, you poor thing," to "Uh, don't you know what CAUSES that?"
Eventually, a woman stopped us and said "How OLD are they?" Mommy said, "Oh, this
one's 20 months, but she's not mine...and this one is six months." The woman looked
relieved and said "Oh good, I didn't know how you could do that!" She had her own
20 month-old, and said she thought Mommy was brave for attempting Costco with both
of them. Finally, Mommy's arm tired out from carrying Mylie and we checked out.
Later in the afternoon we all went to the park with Shannon and Anna. Madilyn
loved swinging on the swings and kept commanding Shannon and Mommy to swing on
the swings next to her. They she tried to command the babies to go down the
slide. She's a funny kid.
After Madilyn went home that night, we went to another Christmas party at church
for the High Priests. Mylie wore her new sparkly Santa outfit that Great Grandma
Bryan, Aunt Patti & Aunt Judy sent up for her. She looked like a little
Rockette, and everyone thought she was soooo cute.
Saturday, December 10 Mommy had "Messiah" rehearsal again this morning,
so Mylie stayed with Daddy, who got her all dressed and ready to go for her
Christmas portraits. Mommy met them at the studio, and we had family portraits
done, along with Six-month pictures. Mylie was a super-star and could do no
wrong. The camera loves her almost as much as she loves the camera!
You can see all the portraits by going to the
JC Penney Website and entering "Nicolas Winters" as
the Customer Name.
Sunday, December 11 This evening was the performance of Handel's "Messiah".
Mommy was playing clarinet in orchestra and had to go early, so Mylie came
with Daddy later. He got her to sleep before it started, and she slept through
the whole thing, even with the orchestra and choir playing and singing around her.
Monday, December 12 Mylie spent the day with Melissa and her baby Lola today.
Melissa is a friend of Mommy's from the Mom's group, and she and Mommy will be trading
babysitting everyweek starting in January. Today was a trial run, and according
to Melissa went pretty well.
Tuesday, December 13 Mylie had her six-month check-up today. We got
Daddy to go with us today too! They had to give Mylie 5 shots, which she
didn't like (of course), but she recovered quickly. After the nurse was
done, Mommy picked her up and she started whimpering, which was a sound
we'd never heard her make before.
After the appointment, Mylie had another day with Stacey while Mommy went to
work. Daddy picks her up in the evenings since Mommy doesn't get home until later
and likes getting to spend the quality time with her.
Wednesday, December 14 Mommy had Madilyn again today, but her Daddy got
off work early and picked her up at about 1:00. So afterward, Mommy went in to
work to help out, and Mylie had fun playing in the boxes. Cheri made her a box
that she could see out of and watch what everyone was doing, and she got to
sit in it on the packing counter and play while people were packing boxes around
her.
Thursday, December 15 Stacey is out of town for the weekend, so today
Nana Winters came up to watch Mylie. Nana was very excited to get to spend
some time with her, and all seemed to go well, except Mylie did not want to
take any naps. Once Daddy got home he finally got her to go to sleep for
a little bit.
Friday, December 16 Today was our first day back at Gymboree after a
long absence. There are many new and much younger babies there now. And
Mylie's crawling skills have developed so much that she is hard to contain
on the mats. Mommy spent most of the time holding on to Mylie's ankles to
try to reign her in, while all the other babies gazed lovingly into their
parents eyes with looks of "Oh, tell me more." Mylie prefers to be a bit
more social, and suck on the other babies' toes. Mommy thinks that the
next time we go back, we will move up to older class with more mobile babies.
After class, Shannon, Jesse & Anna took Mylie home with them and watched her
until Daddy got home, so that Mommy could head to work. Shannon tried to
put Mylie to sleep in the crib, but she ended up turning around and getting
her legs stuck through the bars. Mommy feels a little guilty that Mylie's sleep
schedule is getting so thrown off by all these new experiences. She's a tough
girl though.
Saturday, December 17 More quality time with Daddy today! Mommy was working
again, so Mylie spent the day Christmas shopping with Daddy. He was so proud that
she did so well all day long. After Mommy got off work, we drove down to Olympia
to go to a friend's wedding. Samnang Meas is a friend of Mommy & Daddy's from the
Cambodian ward they used to go to. At the wedding we saw lots of old friends that
we hadn't expected to. We also go to see Forsythe's. It was their daughter Daddy
knew in High School, from whom we got Mylie's name. She spells her name the Hawaiian
way, however: Maile. Maile's mom was so excited to meet Mylie and find out her name!
Sunday, December 18 Today was our Christmas program at church that Mommy was
in charge of. We had to get up extra early and went in with Daddy at 7:30. Mylie
was exhausted and not feeling well. During the program, she sat with Sister Ward,
and fell asleep for most of it. Afterward, Mommy took her home early so that she
could get to bed.
Monday, December 19 Another day with Stacey & Madilyn while Mommy went to
work. This arrangment is getting easier for all of us, I think. Stacey said
Madilyn was so excited when she found out she was going to pick up Mylie, that she
let Stacey put her shoes on her without any fuss (and unusual event)!
Tuesday, December 20 Mommy couldn't find a babysitter for Mylie today, so
instead we hung out together and did some last minute Christmas shopping. We picked
up her portraits, and went out to lunch with Cheri and Nora where we found out
about Nora's recent engagement to Jason! Then we went into work for a little bit.
We sent out some Christmas presents, and did some paperwork for Cheri before Mylie
really tired out and we had to go home.
Big news of the day: Mylie's first tooth has just broken through! And boy is it
sharp. She sometimes like to use Mommy as a teething toy...while nursing. This
will not continue. Either she will quit, or Mommy will!
Wednesday, December 21 Today is our last day with Madilyn. Madilyn has really
come to like Mylie, and likes to sing her name a lot "My-knee, My-knee, My-knee." Eventually,
she kicked it up a notch and added Mommy's name too "Kah-ee, Kah-ee, Kah-ee." She spent
most of the day alternating between those two and "Mamma, Dadda, Kah-ee, My-knee." She
has taken on the big sister role for Mylie, and likes to help her a lot. Today she tried
to help by feeding Mylie her "Kix" cereal. When Mommy saw them, she told Madilyn that
Mylie couldn't have the cereal, so then Madilyn decided to try to feed them to the cats.
After Madilyn's nap, she wouldn't let Mommy take her out of the crib and kept telling her
to go downstairs by saying "Bye! Bye!" She stayed in the crib, happy to be there and
talked and sang to the Sneetches on the wall. Meanwhile, Mommy was in the other room with
Mylie, wrapping Christmas presents. Mylie, being a decent crawler now, kept trying to
get to the wrapping paper. Mommy tried to outsmart her by giving her some scraps to play
with, but she's no dummy. She wanted the real stuff on the rolls, and was able to crawl
over to the box of wrapping paper and pull herself up over the edge of the container to get
what she wanted. Mommy postponed the rest of the wrapping for later.
Thursday, December 22 Mommy doesn't have to go into work anymore! Today we spent
most of the day doing last minute Christmas shopping, and trying to get ready to leave
for Oregon. Daddy got of work early, and helped a little bit before he had to go deliver
presents to people in the ward. When he got back, we loaded up the car and drove down
to Portland. We stayed the night with Aunt Penny & Uncle Doug and their family, and even
got to see Uncle Jim & Aunt Kathryn and their family for a while.
Friday, December 23 We got to sleep in a little this morning, and afterward Mommy
& Daddy left Mylie with Penny & Taio while they went to do some more Christmas shopping.
We left about noon to drive down to Oregon to see Grammie.
Saturday, December 24 Mylie's very first Christmas Eve! She loves the wrapping paper
and bows...mostly to chew on. In the afternoon, we went with Grammie and Cody to take
more family portraits. See the proofs at the Sears Website. Later that evening, we drove around with Grammie & Uncle Cody looking at
Christmas lights, but Mylie mostly just slept.
Sunday, December 25 Mylie slept in on her first Christmas. She slept through the night
for the first time this whole month, and continued sleeping until after 9:00 when we finally
went in to wake her up! The rest of us had almost finished opening presents by then!
In the afternoon we drove down to Klamath Falls to spend the rest of the day with Grandpa Bryan
and his family. We had Christmas Dinner at Judy's house and opened more presents. Grandpa
made Mylie a special slideshow set to music of pictures from her first six months. It is very
special. And Patti & Judy bought Mylie a little yellow duck that sings "If You're Happy and
You Know It" while it dances and jumps up and down. It scared Mylie and she stared crying.
It's the first time we've ever seen her be scared of anything, but it was kind of amusing!
Monday, December 26 We had to make the rounds in Klamath Falls today. We went over
and met the Hay Family and Rachelle Fast and her mom. They were all very impressed by Mylie.
We spent a little more time with Grandpa and everybody before we finally headed back to Bend.
Wednesday, December 28 Kathi & Alyssa came up to Bend today to have Christmas with us.
We opened presents and played, and after dinner went to see "Harry Potter 4" while
Mylie stayed home with Kathi. They had lots of fun playing together.
Thursday, December 29 Grammie & Cody drove with us out to Sunriver today
to look around and see what was there. We spent a little time in the Sunriver
Village, but didn't stay long since it was so cold and none of us were dressed
very appropriately. We did buy Mylie an adorable winter hat, however.
In the evening, Mylie stayed home with Grammie & Cody while Mommy & Daddy went
out for their first date night in quite awhile! After we got home and put
Mylie to bed, Daddy helped Grammie on some projects for work, while Mommy
played with her new Christmas present that Daddy got her: Adobe Creative Suite.
You can see the project that Mommy created tonight here: Mylie's Collage
Saturday, December 31 Mylie celebrated her first New Year's by going out
to dinner with us at the Riverhouse in Bend. We all had Prime Rib, but Mylie
settled for Zweiback Toast, which she has come to love. Mommy & Daddy like it
too, because it makes it much easier to take her out to dinner. It keeps her
very occupied and she sits through dinner nicely. She also got to taste our
yams and mashed potatoes. Mylie didn't get to stay up to ring in the New Year,
however, since she hits a wall at about 8:00.
