Mylie-isms for February
Wednesday, February 1 Lola was back at our house again today, but we had
a much better day than the last two times! After breakfast, the three of us
loaded in the car and drove down to Stacey & Madilyn's. Both girls got in a
nap on the way down, which helped set the day off on a better foot. We went
with Stacey & Madilyn to the Library Story Hour. We spent the rest of the
day at the Nash's, which was enjoyable for everyone, and Lola didn't even have
a major meltdown. We got back just a short while before Melissa came to pick
her up.
Friday, February 3 Mylie's food strike continues. She doesn't want
anything from a spoon. But today, Mommy ground up some spicy sausage and shrimp
pasta (a recipe that Grandpa Bryan invented) and gave it to Mylie, and she
really liked it! Apparently she has a more refined pallet, and is so over that
baby food stuff.
Tonight we went out to dinner with Nana & Papa at a Mexican restaurant downtown.
Mylie was entertained with orange slices, which apparently made her list of
acceptable foods. Afterwards they came over to the house to play games, and
Mylie showed off her new skills, like dancing, clapping, pulling up and cruising.
Saturday, February 4 Mylie has been waking up an hour early for the last
week or so, which does not make Mommy or Daddy especially thrilled. Guess we'll
have to start going to bed earlier! Mylie spent the morning with Daddy while
Mommy went up to the Temple. Then we met at the church building for a baptism,
luncheon and baby blessing. Afterward, Mylie went home for a nap and Daddy stayed
with her while Mommy went to a Valentine Card-Making Party. When Mommy got
home, we all went to a going away party for the Nelson's in our ward. Phew! It
was a busy day!
Tuesday, February 7 Mommy went to a scrapbooking party tonight while Mylie
spent some time with Daddy. Mommy was very excited to get some uninterrupted
creative time to make some scrapbook pages, and hauled all of her materials
over to Tiffani's house. But when she got there and got her stuff out, she
realized she's forgotten all the pictures of Mylie!
Friday, February 10 Mylie got to spend the whole night with Cheri & Darren
tonight while Mommy & Daddy went to a dinner for the Bishopric and their wives.
Darren hasn't gotten to spend any time with Mylie for a while, and they were
very excited to have her. They took her out to dinner, and she had a fun time
eating lemons, and they said she was a very good girl. She did not want to
go to sleep at bedtime, however, so she stayed awake almost until Mommy & Daddy
got there to pick her up at 10:00! It was a very late night for her. She was
quite tired and fussy.
Saturday, February 11 Tonight was the first time that Mommy & Daddy left
Mylie at our house with an actual baby sitter that comes over and gets paid! We
didn't know if we'd ever be ready and feel comfortable leaving Mylie with a
baby-sitter (plus it seems like it was a few weeks ago that our parents were
leaving US with a babysiter!), but we finally cut those apron strings. Cara Perkins
came over to watch Mylie so that Mommy & Daddy could go to a Valentine's Dance.
We didn't stay for long, but used our extra free-time to go on a drive around
the area - something we haven't done for a long time. We tried to find Bill Gate's
house, but to no avail. While we were gone, Mylie tried to chase the cats at
home. She snuck up on Copper and scared him, so he turned around and swatted her.
He's never done that before, and he just barely knicked her, but it scared her.
Monday, February 13 Today we were supposed to go over to Robin & Maddie's
to do some Digital Scrapbooking, but Robin called in the morning and said that
Maddie had a cold. That was probably for the best, because both Mylie and I
woke up with stuffy noses. By the end of the day, Mommy's cold had progressed
rapidly, and she did not feel good at all. Mylie seemed to feel fine, except
for her stuffy nose.
Tuesday, February 14 Both Mommy & Mylie felt a little better this morning,
so we got up early and drove to Seattle to go to a "Tiny Tots" concert at
Benaroya Hall, sponsored by the Seattle Symphony. We have tickets to a series
of concerts, and this was the first we got to go to. It was all about the
composer, Chopin, and was geared towards babies and kids ages 0 - 5. Mylie
seemed to enjoy the first 10 minutes of it, but prefered to spend the next 20
digging through the diaper bag, pulling out toys, and watching them roll down
the floor under the seats. Hopefully when we go back in April, she'll get a
little more out of the concert. Mommy thought it was really neat, anyway.
Wednesday, February 15 Lola came over today again. Mommy had told
Melissa that we both had colds, but Melissa didn't mind because Lola had a
cold too. She was a little cranky, but both girls are starting to have
fun climbing all over each other. The three of us spent most of the day
at home, snotting all over each other. It is amazing how such little
creatures can produce so much snot!
Friday, February, 16 Melissa needed a last minute baby-sitter for Lola
today, so Mommy agreed to watch her for the first part. Both girls were
still snot-balls. Daddy was working at home for the morning, and once he
was finished, he got out his guitar and played it, and both girls were
totally enthralled. They each tried to help him.
After Lola left, we got all of our stuff packed up and loaded in the car, and
headed down to Portland to spend the weekend with Uncle Jim and Aunt Kathryn.
Grammie met us there to spend time with us as well. We all went out to
dinner with Uncle Doug, and Mylie got to be the life of the party - as usual.
Saturday, February 17 Grammie was staying up at Uncle Doug's this
weekend, so Mommy & Daddy sent Mylie over there to spend time with her.
She even got to stay the night with Grammie! They had lots of fun playing
together, and Grammie took over 200 pictures of Mylie! Grammie was so
impressed with how big Mylie has gotten. She loves to talk and smile, and
can pull herself up and cruise along. Mylie thought Che' was just about
the coolest thing she'd ever seen, and tried to crawl all over him at
every possible chance.
Tuesday, Februrary 21 Mylie was asked to do another infant study
at the University of Washington, so we drove there today. This one was
also testing her hearing, so see if she could detect minute differences
in melodic lines. Mommy was really excited about it, as the music
portion of it really intrigued her. Mylie performed very well, and
learned the game very quickly. But afterward, they had to do a tympanometry
test to verify that there was no fluid in Mylie's inner ear, and Mylie
failed the test. Apparently she still had some residual fluid left over
from her cold, so they had to kick us out of the study. We still got the
Baby Husky T-Shirt, however, so life was good.
Friday, February 24 Mommy and Daddy finally bought a new digital
camera tonight, after many months of wanting one. They are very excited,
because no they can take pictures of Mylie all the time, and don't have to
wait for Grammie to be around to take all the pictures.
Mommy had to go to Seattle for an internship meeting, so Cheri took Mylie for
the afternoon, and afterward they met back up along with Darren, Daddy, Jason
and Nora at Claim Jumper for dinner. Mylie got to try lots of new things and
had fun smooshing a banana in her hair. Jason, who is not used to being around
babies asked "How do you de-grease her?" Mommy laughed and told him "We just
hold her by her ankles and dunk her in the toilet."
Saturday, Februrary 25 Mommy went to another Mom's Night Out in Seattle
tonight while Mylie and Daddy played. They had lots of fun, and Mylie loves it when
Daddy plays the guitar for her. She loves to climb all over him and the
guitar and strum the strings. Unfortunately, however, Mylie discovered the
stairs tonight. She had not paid any attention to them before, but in one
evening became an adept little climber. Daddy got it on video, and Mommy
likes to give him a hard time for "teaching" her how to do it and giving her
too much encouragement. We'll really have to keep a close eye on her until
we can get a baby gate!
Monday, February 27 Mylie's top teeth broke through today! We are so
lucky that teething does not seem to be a big issue for her. She takes it
in stride, much like she does everything in her little life.
Today while we were eating breakfast, Mommy's cell phone rang at the same
time that the house phone rang. Mommy was running around trying to get
the phones answered, so she handed Mylie the bowl of oatmeal and said "Here,
try this." Mylie was more than happy to feed herself, and went to town.
By the time Mommy was done on the phone, it was a lost cause. So, Mommy
did the only thing left to do, and grabbed the camera. We had to straight
up to the bathroom afterward to "de-grease" her!
