Mylie-isms for July
Friday, July 1 Today we drove to Seattle to meet Aunt Dana in her last day here before moving to Washington D.C.
It was Mylie's first visit to the city, as well as the Waterfront and Pikes Place Market. Daddy wore her in the Snuggli
the whole time, and she pretty much slept through it.
Saturday, July 2 Aunt Rachel and Uncle Steve flew in from Salt Lake City today. Uncle Steve had never seen
a professional baseball game before, so we all decided to go. It was Mylie and Uncle Steve's very first Mariners
Game! Mylie slept through most of it, but luckily Uncle Steve did not. It was also the first time Mommy breast fed
in public (oh, the horror, the horror!) It was actually not traumatic at all, and even Aunt Rachel who was sitting
right beside Mommy did not even notice!
Sunday, July 3 Today was Mylie's blessing at church. Daddy performed the blessing, and Bishop Perkins, Papa
Winters, Uncle Steve, Uncle Jake and Great Uncle Tom all stood in. Mylie was a good baby during it, and Daddy only
cried a little. Afterward, everybody, including Aunt Anneka, Aunt Rachel, Great Aunt Marie, Grandma Winters, Nana
Winters, and Cousin Charlotte all came over to the house for dinner that Aunt Anneka and Uncle Jake put together.
We spent the evening ooh-ing and aahh-ing over Mylie. We also all took a walk to the park because it was a gorgeous
day.
Wednesday, July 6 We had our first "Mommy & Me" class today in Issaquah. As usual, Mylie slept through most
of it, but we got to meet 11 other babies that were born around the same time. The class is 5 weeks long, and is
basically set up for us to get out of the house, meet other people, and share our experiences. Lisa, the instructor,
is great, and has lots of neat ideas for everyone.
Friday, July 8 Mylie is One Month Old today! Time flies! She no longer looks like a newborn, and is starting
to interact more and more. She is very good at finding her fingers to suck, although she still prefers a pacifier,
and she likes to grab onto Mommy's hair and sometimes Daddy's chest hair. To celebrate her birthday, she and Mommy
flew down to Arizona to suprise Great Grandma & Grandpa Miller. Mylie is a wonderful little traveler, but that didn't
make getting through the airport any easier. Luckily they let Daddy help us get through security, which was a life-saver.
Mylie slept for almost all of the flight (two legs, even!) and did not even fuss during take-offs and landings (she
just sucked away on her pacifier and was fine). Grandma Winters picked us up at the airport and we spent the night with
her. In the morning she took us to GG Miller's where we suprised them. Grammie and Great Uncle Jim were there too.
They were so thrilled to get to meet her! We spent the weekend trying to stay out of 111 degree heat, and flew back
on Monday, July 11th.
Tuesday, July 12 Mylie can recognize Mommy and Daddy now and will give us big smiles! Of course, we think this
means she is a genius, since she is barely over a month old, and we do everything we can to get her to smile more.
We have discovered there is no joy quite like seeing your child smile an adorable affectionate grin, and we are
addicted. She's got us wrapped around her finger, right where she wants us!
Friday, July 15 Mylie is tracking people and objects incredibly well, and today she discovered a new toy that
she loves. Her Baby Einstein Play Mat has a star at the top that plays music and flashes lights, and for the first
time she notices it and pays attention. She can also get it to turn on by patting at the toys that hang down, which
she does occasionally. She may not be doing it completely on purpose, but it seems to us like she's starting to get
the hang of it.
Saturday, July 16 We all went to Daddy's Company Picnic today. Although there was not much for a one-month
old to do, we still enjoyed getting a free lunch and spending time outside and showing Mylie off to Daddy's co-workers.
Later in the evening, Mommy went to a class on the Mythical Symbols in the Harry Potter books, so Daddy got to be alone
with Mylie for the first time. They did very well together, and when Mommy got home, Mylie was sleeping soundly.
Friday, July 22 Finally we got to go on a road trip with Daddy! Today we drove down to Portland to
visit Mommy's relatives. We stayed at Aunt Penny & Uncle Doug's, and they had a BBQ. Mylie got to meet her
1st Cousins (Once Removed :)) Jason and Kait, Aunt Kathryn, Aunt Sarah & Uncle Greg. Grammie Marci drove up
from Bend, to make sure she gets to see her favorite Granddaughter at least every two weeks. Everyone
thought Mylie was the greatest baby! After dinner we all played "Password" and Mylie was very content to sit
on Aunt Penny's lap and just watch everyone - especially Aunt Kathryn.
Saturday, July 23 Today we got to go to Cara Evan's wedding. Cara is Mommy's friend from college, and
she had a beautiful wedding in Vancouver, Washington. Mylie was probably the youngest wedding guest, but she
was on her best behavior. At the reception, we sat with Jason and Nora and some of Mommy's other college
friends. We were concerned that the music was too loud for Mylie's little ears, although it didn't seem to
be bothering her, but we didn't stay too long. Before we left, all three of us got to dance to Mommy and
Daddy's favorite song "When You Say Nothing At All", (this version was by Allison Kraus).
Sunday, July 24 At church today we got to sit with Melodee and Ali Perkins. Ali has been waiting for a chance to hold Mylie, and finally got it. Mylie absolutely loved Ali, and spent most of Sacrament Meeting smiling and giggling at her. She especially loved to stare at Ali's big silver hoop earrings. After church we went over to Nana & Papa Winters' house for a BBQ. There Mylie got to meet Great Grandpa Don Collins, Great Grandma Marge Collins, Aunt Abby, Uncle Andy, Cousin Layne, Uncle Ruben & Aunt Danette. Uncle Jake & Aunt Anneka were there too. Everyone loved to hold sweet baby Mylie!
Tuesday, July 26 Today Mommy wanted to take Mylie to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which was playing in Seattle at a special showing just for Moms and Babies. We drove all the way up to Seattle, and arrived with just enough time, but then couldn't find the movie theatre! Mommy had never been there, and the directions she got from the internet were wrong! Mylie started screaming while we were driving around, so finally Mommy parked in the shopping mall where she thought it was, just so she could get Mylie out of the car seat. Mommy was wrong about the theatre, however, and by the time we realized it, it was too late. We got back in the car (Mylie was now sleeping soundly) and drove around Seattle until we found the theatre, so that we'll know where it is for next time! We drove back home, and then spent the rest of the afternoon at Target, getting some things we needed for the house. They have the special movies every week, so we'll try again next week.
Thursday, July 28 Nana Winters came over to play today. She tried to help Mommy make a plaster molding
of Mylie's feet and hands, but Mommy let the plaster sit a little too long, and it was to hard to stick Mylie's
feet in. Mommy also bought a baby scale, which arrived today, and we got to weigh her. She is up to a solid
12lbs 5oz! After that we went to the mall for an Orange Julius because it was so hot outside. Mylie was so
tired, but kept fighting sleep because she wanted to watch everything around her! Mommy finally had to put the
top down on the stroller so Mylie couldn't see anything, and she fell asleep within seconds. That night we
all went out to dinner because it was too hot to cook.
Friday, July 29 Mylie is getting really good at holding her head up and she still loves to smile at just
about anyone who will make goofy faces at her. Today we spent the day out looking for fans for the house so that
we don't have to be so miserable during the daytime. We finally settled on cheap Home Depot brands, and they do
the trick, but smell a lot like band-aids.
Saturday, July 30 Today was Mylie's first modeling experience when we went to JC Penney's for family
portraits. Mylie was on her best behavior, and the photographer was able to get some incredible smiles out
of her. We are looking forward to getting them back in three weeks. Mylie did realize that modeling is very
tiring work, because she fell asleep for a long time immediately afterward. Later, we went over to Shannon,
Jesse & Anna's house for a BBQ. Anna slept for most of the time, but Mylie was wide awake looking at all the
new sights. As soon as Anna did finally wake up, Mylie promptly fell asleep. We're looking forward to the time
when they realize each other exists, and maybe can even play together a little bit.
