Mylie-isms for May
Monday, May 1 Mylie woke up still lethargic today and just wanted to snuggle,
so Mommy took her to see the doctor. It turns out that she caught a virus that
is actually very common. Apparently we all get it all the time, and as adults we
hardly notice it, but the first time you get it can be pretty awful and lasts
7 - 10 days. She had white spots on the back of her throat which makes it hurt
and she runs a fever. So, we basically just have to wait it out.
Wednesday, May 3 Mylie woke up at about 11pm tonight, screaming unconsolably.
This was scary for Mommy and Daddy because she had never done this before. She
hadn't been eating much for the last couple days, and wouldn't take any bottles.
She would sometimes nurse, but not well. So, when she woke up nothing would soothe
her. After about an hour of this, we finally decided to drive her up to the ER in
Redmond. We were in the ER with Mylie screaming on and off for a few hours, just
so that they could tell us it was just the virus and to give her pain reliever.
Friday, May 5 Mylie finally seems to be getting back to her normal self again.
She is eating foods other than Otter Pops, at least. What a horrible, LONG lasting
virus!
Saturday, May 6 Mommy had an event at Seattle U today that she was hosting
for her internship. Daddy and Mylie got to come and eat brunch, and Mylie got to
meet Marta's son, Ewan, who is 3 and 1/2 and loved to try to feed Mylie.
Wednesday, May 17 Lola came over again today, and Stacey also came up with
Madilyn to play. We went for a walk to the park with all the girls, and Mylie
and Lola enjoyed walking around on the bark chips. Mommy had a hard time keeping
the girls from eating them! Usually on these days Mommy loads both girls in the
car and drives around so that they will take their naps, but today she didn't have
an extra car seat, so we couldn't go anywhere. Lola did not want to take a nap
for Mommy and she screamed and screamed, which kept waking Mylie up. It was not a
very fun day!
Friday, May 19 Mommy & Daddy went to go see a musical in Tacoma tonight
(Ragtime the Musical), so Ali Perkins came over to babysit. It was the first time
Mylie had ever stayed with a teenaged babysitter before. Everything seemed to
go fine, although Mylie got rather cranky and had to go to bed early.
Saturday, May 20 Mommy went to a Stake Women's conference this morning,
and Daddy stayed home to watch Mylie and Aidan Larsen. And while Mommy was
gone, Mylie took her first steps! Of course it would be like that! She did
recreate the moment when Mommy got home, but it wasn't the same! She is taking
3 or 4 steps on her own now, but is still very unsure of herself.
Grammie came up for a short visit this weekend on her way
to Florida for work. She didn't get to play much with Mylie, though, because she
and Daddy were so busy trying to finish up their database project. We did take a
break for dinner, however, and went to try out a new restaurant in Renton - Fin 'N' Bone.
It was delicious!
Friday, May 26 We left this morning to fly to Sacramento. We are spending
the weekend in Grass Valley, CA to celebrate Great-Grandpa Whitaker's 80th
birthday. Most all of Mylie's great aunts will be there, along with lots of
cousins and second cousins. The plane was packed on the way down, but Mylie was
a pretty good traveler. She loved to talk to the other babies and children around
us, and she discovered a new game of feeding Daddy her snacks. Daddy willing
obliges, even if Mylie has previously "taste-tested" them! What a good Daddy!
At the hotel that evening, Mommy & Daddy weren't sure how they were going to get
Mylie to go to bed. She is a very solitary sleeper, and prefers to put herself
to sleep without anyone else around. That is hard when you're sharing a hotel
room! So Mommy and Daddy turned on the TV softly for white noise, layed Mylie
in her pack & play that they blocked off from all the light, and slipped out the
door while Mylie fell asleep. We didn't know what else to do but walk around for
a little while. We ended up going to the little grocery store nearby for water
and other supplies. At first we felt a little guilty, but soon realized that
we knew she was safe in her crib, and even if she woke up crying, we wouldn't be
gone longer than we would let her cry it out in her room at home. The plan worked
out great, and we were able to slip back in without her noticing, and even got to
watch a little TV until our bedtime.
Saturday, May 27 We spent most of the day today having a work party for
Great Grandma and Grandpa, doing chores around their house. We brought the
pack & play, which was a lifesaver, over so Mylie was able to take a nice long nap.
In the afternoon, Mommy loaded her into the back pack and took her outside to
play croquet with Daddy and all the cousins.
We had a late lunch today, so we decided to try to all go to a casual place for
dinner, where people could either just get appetizers or desserts if they weren't
hungry. We called ahead to make sure they could seat all of us, and they said
they could, but when we got there, the places was all closed up and vacated! And
the phone numbers we had were disconnected. So our whole caravan of cars started
driving around Grass Valley looking for another place to eat. We ended up settling
on Cold Stone. While we were there, Mylie had a great time mooching bites of ice
cream off everyone, and then Uncle Gerald took her and Ashley and Taylor for rides
across the parking lot in a Safeway shopping cart. What fun!
Sunday, May 28 Mylie woke up at about 1am this morning, made a little rustle,
and then puked all over the crib. Since we were sharing a hotel room, Mommy & Daddy
heard it immediately, and shot out of bed. We tried to clean off her bedding, but
eventually brought her back to bed with us (and a towel underneath!). She puked twice
more during the night. It was scary since we were traveling, and Mylie had never
thrown up before. But in the morning, she seemed to be a little better, and although
she was lethargic and cuddly, she still managed to smile at anyone who paid attention
to her. She didn't have a huge appetite all day, but was eating enough to keep us
from worrying too much.
Monday, May 29 Most family members left to go home today, but we hung around
and got to have some more quality time with Great Grandma & Grandpa. And Mylie has
officially started walking. Over the weekend she has been able to walk across the
living room, and has even been able to pull herself up to standing without holding on
to anything!
In the evening
we drove down to Sacramento to have dinner with Uncle Gerald and Aunt Marilyn, but
Uncle Gerald wasn't feeling well and ended up having to go to bed early.
Tuesday, May 30 Today was the day we were supposed to leave, so that Mommy could
get back for class in the evening and do a presentation. But at 1 in the morning,
Mommy woke up with a horrible tummy ache. It wasn't long until she threw up, just like
Mylie had. She continued to throw up every hour for the next 9 hours, and she felt
horrible. After about the second time, Daddy joined her! Once morning came, we decided
we probably shouldn't fly home today, so we went to spend the rest of the day at the
Whitaker's, where Aunt Ev was there with Aunt Marie & Uncle Tom. When we got there
we found that Uncle Tom had been sick all night too! As the day progressed, other family
members began to call the house and report that they too had gotten sick that night.
When it was all said and done, over 30 family members had gotten sick, and only about 5
were spared. Apparently, a nasty stomach flu has been going around the nation. It wasn't
food poisoning, because there was nothing that we had all eaten in common. But it was
horrible! Daddy even had to drive Uncle Tom down to Sacrament to go the ER. Then, 24
hours after Mommy first got sick, she woke up and felt fine again!
Wednesday, May 31 So we flew back today instead of yesterday. It was a nice
and relaxed trip, and we decided that flying on Wednesday afternoons is the thing to
do! There was hardly anyone on our flight, so we got to spread out in a whole row
to ourselves, and there was no one in the row in front of us or behind us! It made
the flight much nicer! And Mylie continued to wow the flight attendants with her
smile and charm. Mommy and Daddy seemed to be completely back to normal, although
they were quite tired.
