Mylie-isms for November
Tuesday, November 1 We woke up early today and Daddy helped us to pack
up the car so we could head down to Oregon to Grammie's house. We are going
there to stay for a couple weeks while
Daddy goes to India
for work. Mylie was a great little traveler. She slept most of the way to
Portland, where we stopped to meet with Penny, Doug & Desi before getting back
on the road. Then she continued to sleep for most of the way to Bend, and
even when she woke up - about an hour outside of Bend - she stayed quiet and
content. Grammie was so excited to see us! She has all kinds of fun toys
for Mylie to play with, and even got her her very own crib! It makes it much
easier for Mylie to sleep away from home.
Wednesday, November 2 Mylie woke up feeling a little bit hot this morning.
She also seemed very lethargic. Mommy kept an eye on her temperature, which peaked
at only about 99.6. The sweet baby is still happy even when she doesn't feel her
best.
Thursday, November 3 Mylie definitely has aquired her first cold! Poor
thing is all stuffed up which makes it hard to nurse. Even worse than that, she
absolutely HATES the "booger snatcher" that mommy uses to help clear out her
nose. Who can blame her? We did go to Grammie's work to take a picture with
all the other babies that were born to Grammie's co-workers this summer, but
we tried to make sure we didn't get too close, so we didn't get them sick.
Friday, November 4 Mylie said Mama today!! It was clear and plain as day,
and both Mommy and Grammie heard it. Of course, it was a complete fluke and she
had no idea what she had done, but it was exciting to hear anyway!
Saturday, November 5 Uncle Cody, Kathi & Alyssa all came up from Klamath
Falls to visit today. Mylie is finally starting to feel better, although she
has some residual mucus in her sinuses. Kathi & Alyssa are staying until tomorrow,
but Uncle Cody gets to stay with us all next week! Mylie really loves her Uncle
Cody. Kathi, Grammie & Mommy played and played with Mylie and are watching her
make continual progress with her crawling. She gets herself up on hands and knees
now, and can rock back and forth. Occassionally, she will launch herself forward
too. It won't be long now! We're taking bets on whether it will be before Daddy
gets home from India!
Tuesday, November 8 Mylie is 5 months old today! She celebrated by showing
Grammie how good she is at rolling. She rolled all across the living room and
played all night. The rest of us got Cold Stone Ice Cream to celebrate, and
Mylie got a couple tastes. She is so interested in what everyone is eating and
drinking and always wants to try some, but the ice cream was a bit cold for her.
Wednesday, November 9 Grandpa Bryan drove up today to visit us. Mylie loves
her Grandpa very much, and just stares and grins at him. Today she also discovered
her tongue, and entertains herself by chewing on it - it looks very silly.
Thursday, November 10 Mylie gave her cold to Mommy! It probably won't be the
last time, but Mommy was very glad that we were at least staying with Grammie
instead of being home alone while Daddy's in India!
Friday, November 11 We left Grammie's today and drove to Portland. Mylie
is the best little traveler...slept pretty much the whole way, even though it
took an extra hour once we hit the traffic in Portland. We got a hotel in
Beaverton, and then went out to dinner together. Grammie has taught Mylie to
drink out of waterbottles and straws, so Mommy tried giving her drinks out of
her water, but it was so cold, and appeared to give Mylie a cold headache. She
shuddered, and her eyes turned really red! She also got a taste of Mommy's
refried beans, but she absolutely did not like them. When we stopped at the
gas station to fill up, the attendant noticed Mylie smiling at him from the back
seat, and gave her some teddy bear stickers. She's a bit young for them still,
so they'll go in her baby book.
When we got back to the hotel, Mylie was exhausted, so Mommy laid her down on
the bed and went to brush her teeth. She must have woken up right away, because
it was only a few seconds before Mommy heard a thud and came around the corner
to see Mylie on the floor. Luckily, she was not hurt, but it had knocked the
wind out of her and scared her pretty badly. She cried for a few minutes, but
soon calmed down and was fine. We slept together on the bed, but Mylie has
started taking after her Uncle Cody, and likes to turn circles in her sleep.
She was soon cross-ways in the bed with her feet in Mommy's ribs. Mommy was
not sleeping anyway, because she was up with a fever. When Mommy tried to
move Mylie, she would wimper and start to wake up. Finally, Mommy gave up and
moved to the foot of the bed and slept cross-ways too. This worked well until
some other hotel guests tried to get into our room, thinking it was theirs.
Luckily, they quickly realized their error and moved on.
Saturday, November 12 We checked out early and went to the Oregon Convention
Center for a Time Out For Women's Conference, where we met Nana. Mylie was
an angel all day long throughout the conference, even though she did not sleep
much. Mommy got lots of exercise today, though, because she had to carry
Mylie in her carrier, along with a bunch of other baby stuff, from the parking
garage on one end of the conference center to the other. She is probably over 18
pounds now, and when combined with the weight of her infant carrier, is probably
around 30. Mommy's arms were sore the whole next day!
We drove back home to Seattle immediately after the conference. Nana rode with
us and Papa caravaned. We stoped in Chehalis at the Kit Carson Restaurant where
Papa and Daddy had always stopped when Daddy was growing up. We ate dinner there
and Mylie spent her first meal in a restaurant high chair. She is almost
big enough to make it work, but she tended to lean and slide down a bit, which
looked rather uncomfortable. After dinner Mommy & Papa got Peanut Butter Pie
(too bad Daddy was in India...that's his very favorite!), and when Mommy got
back from the bathroom she found Papa giving Mylie spoonfuls of whipped cream!
Mylie absolutely loved it (who wouldn't?) and would try and feed herself. She
would grab the spoon from Papa, and immediately wipe it all over her face...and her
clothes...and Papa's clothes...and most anything else in the vicinity. There is a
slight possibility that she actually tasted some, but most of it just went anywhere
but her mouth. It was hilarious!
Monday, November 14 Mommy has a lot more respect for single parents now.
Even though we have only been home alone for a couple days, we are definitely
ready for Daddy to get home! Shannon and Anna came over in the afternoon
for a little while, and then we went to their house and had dinner. Mylie
always seems to get extra hyper around Anna, and she was rolling and almost-crawling
like crazy. Anna just stares at her like "What a freak!" They are quite funny
together.
Tuesday, November 15 Daddy got home today! Mylie and Mommy went to pick
him up after going to a play day with the Mom's group. Daddy was excited to
see us, but had gotten sick on the way home. Unfortunately, his luggage did
not make the plane on the way back from Portland, so we had to leave without
it and they didn't deliver it until midnight that night.
Friday, November 19 We left for Utah today on Mylie's second airplane trip.
She was so good and fell asleep almost immediately. Daddy was jealous because
Mylie got the window seat and fell asleep and wasn't even appreciating it! We
got into Utah at about 11:00pm and Aunt Rachel picked us up from the airport.
We stayed with Aunt Rachel & Uncle Steve, which was so fun, and they even had
a crib and changing table for us to use. That makes travelling with a baby so
much easier!
Saturday, November 20 Today we drove with Aunt Rachel to pick up Grandma
Winters from the airport, and then the four girls all drove out to Park City to
do some shopping at the outlet malls. Both Mommy & Mylie got some matching jeans
at Old Navy. Daddy stayed home with Uncle Steve to play Super Techmo Bowl on their
Nintendo, but Daddy was still recovering from his trip to India and ended up sleeping
for most of the time we were gone. Poor Daddy.
Sunday, November 21 We went with Rachel & Steve to church today, and afterward
were planning on going to Steve's sister's house for dinner. Steve's sister, Andrea
and her husband, Jeff, have three boys - Taylor (8), Sam (3) and Carson (4 months).
Mylie was really excited to get to meet Carson, but right before we were supposed to
go over there, Andrea called to tell us she was on the way to the Emergency Room with
Carson. He had been in his bouncy chair on the table, got bouncing too high, bounced
off the table, over the dining room chair, fell face first on the slate floor and then
the dining room chair fell on top of him. They were worried he'd broken his nose or
got a concusion, but after a few hours in the ER and a few CAT scans, they determined
that he was alright - just a little swollen and bruised. This is the 4th time this year
that Andrea has taken one of the boys to the ER (both older boys have each broken an arm
or two this year), and Mommy decided she was really glad she had a girl first. Now we're
at least guaranteed not to have ALL boys. Mommy doesn't think she could handle it.
Monday, November 22 Steve & Rachel had to work today, so we hung out at their house
with Grandma Winters. In the afternoon we decided to use Steve and Rachel's stroller and
take a walk down to the market, about a half mile down the hill. It was fun, except for
the trip back, which gave us all a good work out. Well, it gave Mommy & Daddy a good
workout. Mylie was suggled in the stroller.
While we were eating lunch at the market, Mylie started getting a little fussy so Mommy
gave her the plastic top from her drink cup to chew on. After a while Daddy started to
worry that it would cut her and took it away from her, and Mylie started to scream. It
was the first time we ever saw her get upset when we took something away. After that
Daddy said she definitely wasn't getting it back!
Thursday, November 24 Happy Thanksgiving! Today was Mylie's first, and she even
got to taste some mashed potatoes and some candied yams. She didn't like either one.
She is still trying so hard to crawl and gets closer every day. She can make her legs
go, but still can't coordinate the arms. Today Rachel & Mommy were playing with her
on the floor and she actually moved her arms like she was going to crawl. We both
got excited and gasped, which startled Mylie, so she stopped moving!
Friday, November 25 Mommy & Rachel got up super early to go shopping today, and
Mylie stayed home with Daddy & Steve. Later that evening, Mommy, Daddy, Mylie & Steve
all went out to dinner and then went to the mall to take in a little Christmas spirit.
We were going to go see Harry Potter, but decided we were all too tired.
Monday, November 28 For a while now, Mylie has been working on talking. Every
once in awhile she babbles something that sounds like a word. But this past week
she has really found her voice. She is now accomplished in saying "bah bah" and
"mah mah" and will chatter away, especially when she's getting her diaper changed.
Daddy got her on video babbling away, and as he was playing with her she also
started cracking up.
Tuesday, November 29 We flew home today, very early in the morning. Mylie
didn't sleep through the whole flight this time and had a small break down part
way through, but there were a ton of babies on that flight so no one really
noticed.
