Flower Girl

Mylie-isms for June

Thursday, June 1 We went to a play group that the church hosts for the first time today. It happened to be at Gene Coulon Beach Park today, and Mylie had a great time getting to show off her new walking skills. She walked all over the bark chips and the grass, and even got to play on the beach. She really wanted to walk down to the water, but it was cold and overcast and a little drizzly, and we decided not to play in the water.

Mylie is continually becoming more and more fun. In the past few weeks she has really grown intellectually, and is really demonstrating that she knows what certain things mean. She will clap when asked to clap, and has even learned how to "take a bow!" She likes to use Mommy's hair brush to brush her hair, and she will point to Mommy's nose when asked.

Saturday, June 3 What a busy day today! Mommy got up early to go to a meeting while Daddy watched Mylie. Then Stacey and Madilyn came over, and Daddy stayed with Mylie and Madilyn while Mommy and Stacey drove out to Covington to go to Jess Garland's baby shower. She is having a baby boy in July. We had to leave the shower early in order to come back home, pick up Daddy and the girls, and drive up to Gymboree for a birthday party for all the babies from our playgroup. We had so much fun, and it was great to see how all the babies have grown. Look at the pictures!

Once we left there, we drove home to drop off Stacey & Madilyn, and then drove all the way back up to Redmond to go to a Potluck for Mommy's Music Fraternity, SAI. Mylie was a HUGE hit at the party, and charmed everyone. She was definitely on her best behavior, even though it had been a horribly long day. Also, while we were driving, we got a call saying that Mylie had a brand new (2nd) cousin! Graycee Lynn Dorner was born to Kinsy & David around 4:30pm, and we are so excited for them!

Sunday, June 4 Mylie melted Daddy's heart today. After Sacrament Meeting at church, Mommy was gathering up all our stuff, and Mylie took off into the crowd of people gathering in the aisle. Daddy was coming down from his seat on the stand, and Mylie saw him, yelled "Dadda!" and made a beeline for him. Daddy felt so special! When did she become a toddler?

Tuesday, June 6 Mylie got to go to another play group today without Mommy. The babies were all gathering at Melissa & Lola's house today, so Mommy dropped her off and had to go in to Seattle U, as today is the last day of class. Mommy has been very busy finishing up projects for school, and today had to make the presentation she missed last week when she was sick. The project was about her philosophy of education as applied to her career. Since her career is going to be educating Mylie, she did her presentation with a little different twist. See the Project

Thursday, June 8 One year ago today we met our beautiful baby girl. She has been an absolute joy over the last year, and had melted our hearts a million times. She gives us strength and teaches daily the value of a pure and simple smile. We never knew it before, but there was definitely a Mylie-shaped hole in our lives for a long time, and it has been beautifully filled for the last year.

Despite all that, Mylie goes to bed early, so we did not have a birthday celebration for her tonight. Instead, Mommy went to Nora's bachelorette party at Cirque du Soleil. We also found out today that Mommy's friend, Ben, and his wife had their baby today, on Mylie's birthday! Mommy thinks that is pretty cool! The baby's name is Grayson Benjamin Stewart, so now we have a Graycee and a Grayson born within 5 days of each other.

Friday, June 9 Tonight was Nora & Jason's wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. We ended up not being able to get a babysitter for Mylie, so she came with us. She was great all through the rehearsal, but when we got to dinner, it started to get late, and she was not into hanging around to eat. So Daddy, being the wonderful Daddy he is, stepped up and took Mylie home so that Mommy could enjoy the dinner in peace.

Saturday, June 10 Mommy had to be up to Woodinville for the wedding early today, so Mylie spent the whole day hanging with Daddy...and gathering up all the things Mommy forgot to bring with her. They came to the wedding together in the evening. Mommy was one of Nora's bridesmaids, and we all had our hair and makeup professionally done. Mommy was the first one to walk down the aisle (because we were in height order :)), and Mylie and Daddy were sitting in the last row on the aisle. As Mommy walked by, she smiled and waved at Mylie, but Mylie just looked at her. She kept staring and staring at Mommy, and Mommy realized that Mylie didn't recognize her!

Mylie was very good all through the wedding, and through dinner at the reception. She finally got overtired, so we set up the pack and play in one of the hotel rooms, and she slept peacefully until Mommy & Daddy were ready to leave, even with the music from the reception blaring downstairs! She definitely gets her sleeping abilities from her Dad.

We found out on our way home that Mylie is going to get a cousin any day! Rachel and Steve have been selected to adopt a baby girl that is due any time! We are so very excited for them, and thrilled that we will be able to have joint birthday parties for the babies!

Sunday, June 11 Well, because we hadn't been able to celebrate Mylie's birthday during the week, since it had been such a crazy week, we went over to Nana & Papa's tonight to celebrate. Abby & Andy came over with Layne, who is about 10 months older than Mylie, and they had a great time playing together. Mylie loves older babies and stares at them with a look that says "Teach me everything you know!" Mylie got great gifts, including a Glockespiel and a Drum from Grandpa Bryan...Thanks Grandpa!

Tuesday, June 13 We went for Mylie's 12-month check-up today and she had to get three shots. But she handled it as well as anyone would. She weighed in at 21 lbs and 29.75 inches, putting her in the 48th percentile for weight and the 71st percentile for height. Her head size is in the 93rd percentile.

Thursday, June 15 Have you ever been to a public place with water (say, a beach or a lake) and seen all the kids running around naked, and think, I can't believe their parents let them do that! Yeah, me too. But now...Mommy is one of those parents!!! Ahh! So, the other day the moms in our ward were having a play group at a local park on Lake Washington. It's the second one we've ever been to, and as we was getting ready to leave the house, Mommy was rounding up all our stuff, and left the room for a second. Mylie took off one of her shoes, and proceeded to trip head first into the piano. So she's screaming, and Mommy's trying to comfort her, and so once Mylie's calmed down, Mommy just take her out and put her in the car, planning to come back for the rest of the stuff and the other shoe. Well, she came back for the rest of the stuff...but it wasn't until we got to the park (20 minutes away) that Mommy realized...uh, oh...only one shoe! So now she feels like a dope of a mom. And as we go meet the other moms, she jokingly says "Haha, I'm such a dope, look what I did," hoping they'll laugh with her But they pretty much just looked at her like, "Man, you really are a bad mom!" (Not really judgmental, but they definitely weren't laughing WITH her!). So, Mommy can't let Mylie play on the wood chips, because now she can't walk on them, which means she'll be sitting in them, which means she'll be eating them. And there was a HUGE waiting line for the swings (there was also a giant pre-school graduation happening this day at the park). So, we head down with one of the other moms and kids to the beach. Mommy figures Mylie can walk on the sand at least. Keep in mind the weather in Seattle. It's still cloudy and gray, slightly windy, although not raining. Well, after she finally gets comfortable with the feel of sand on her feet, she decides she really likes it. And she's running... okay, toddling...all over and getting wet sand caked all over her overalls and long-sleeved onesie (and probably just as much in her mouth). So, Mommy decides, why not?! And she strips her down to her diaper and lets her go for it. So, pretty soon some other moms show up. These moms are the ones with loads of snacks, swim diapers, towels, extra clothes, and beach toys. Mommy, on the other hand, has a couple regular diapers and a cup of water for Mylie, which now has sand in it. But Mylie seemed to be having a great time chasing the ducks around. But then the ducks got a little extra friendly when one of the kids started feeding them cheerios. Mommy was in the process of packing to go, and had set Mylie down while she munched on some gold fish. Mommy turned around just in time to see a duck making its way toward her outstretched hand with a goldfish in it. Mommy could see it all happening in slow motion, and yelled to scare the duck just as it lunged for the cracker. Needless to say, she didn't scare the duck, but she did scare Mylie, who proceeded to scream like she was dying. There wasn't a mark on her, so we don't think it actually hurt her, but now Mommy is the awesome mom who forgets her kid's shoes...comes completely unprepared (no sand toys? I mean...honestly!) ...lets her kid run around naked...and lets her kid get bit by a duck!!! But the good news is, Mylie had a lot of fun :).

Friday, June 16 We drove down to Stacey & Madilyn's this afternoon. Stacey & Mommy tried to get the girls to make hand prints in clay for their dads for Father's Day... let's just say, anything that involves us baking artwork in an oven is probably not a good idea. The hand prints ended up getting horrible air bubbles, are all misshappen and deformed, and got burnt on one side and are still doughy on the other! Mommy decided to give it to Daddy anyway, just so she could tell him the story because it was so funny. He heard the story before he saw the handprints. Upon seeing the hand prints he commented, "Well, when you were telling the story, I thought you were being melodramatic, and it really wasn't going to be that bad...well, it really is that bad!!"

Saturday, June 17 We all went shopping today and bought a new grill for Mothers/Fathers Day. We only had a small window of time to go get it, and we didn't realize how big the box was going to be, so we had to quickly cram it into our Subaru, with just barely enough room for Mylie. Mommy and Daddy had to stay up late putting it together, and didn't even get to try it out tonight!

Tuesday, June 20 We are still waiting for the sun to shine this summer. Every once in awhile we will have a nice sunny day, followed by days of rain. But today the sun came out and warmed the place up. To celebrate, we met with Nikolas, Maddie, & Lola at Lake Boren Park in Newcastle for a picnic. The babies had great fun eating each other's food, stealing it back and forth. Then they played and played in the wood chips and tried their best to climb up the slides. What fun!

When Daddy got home from work, we drove down to meet Nana in Federal Way. Mylie got to have a sleepover at Nana & Papa's tonight because Mommy has class all day tomorrow. After Mylie went with Nana, Mommy & Daddy got to go out for a nice dinner by ourselves!

Wednesday, June 21 Mylie spent the day with Nana, and had lots of fun playing and getting messy when Abby came over with Layne. Mommy spent all day in class, but we all met together to go to Mylie's last day at The Little Gym. It was lots of fun to see all the neat things the kids can do, and they even had an award ceremony where they all got medals. Too cute!

Friday, June 23 We decided to go down to Portland this weekend to meet with Grammie and the rest of Mommy's family. Daddy had to go to work in the morning, though, so Mommy tried to get everything ready. She really needed to give Mylie a bath before we left, and in the process Mylie pooped in the bathtub for the first time! As if that wasn't bad enough, her hair was still covered in shampoo. So Mommy had to pull her out quickly and then stick her head under the bathroom sink faucet to rinse it, with Mylie screaming and kicking the whole time. We both recovered eventually though.

Once Daddy got home, we loaded up the car and drove to Portland, but mananged to take off right in the middle of rush hour, so the drive took us almost four and a half hours! Mylie did pretty good, especially considering she had already had her nap so she didn't sleep for most of the trip. Mommy was reading a book out loud to Daddy which had some funny parts. Mylie got her own book and held it on her lap to "read." Whenever Mommy & Daddy would laugh about the book, Mylie would crack up too.

Saturday, June 24 Mylie got to play with Grammie today while Mommy & Daddy went to a job interview for Daddy. It was a last minute interview that occured when a company (Op Technologies) that Daddy had contacted back in February. It was an informal interview, but at the end of it, they more or less offered Daddy a job! We weren't planning on moving there so soon, so it was a big shock. We are waiting for them to give us an official offer before we make our decision, but it would be very nice to be closer to family!

Tuesday, June 27 Mommy had to go out of town for class today, so Mylie got to spend the day with Stacey and Madilyn. The girls played together for most of the morning, and in the afternoon, they both slept...A LOT! Mylie took a four-hour nap and Madilyn took a 3-hour nap. So Stacey had time to mop her floors AND take her own nap! Mommy and Stacey are so glad the girls enjoy playing together. Madilyn gets so excited whenever Mylie is going to visit, and Mylie just looks at Madilyn with a look that says "Teach me everything you know!"

Wednesday, June 28 Today is Mommy and Daddy's 4th Anniversary! So far we have had a big life event for every one of our anniversaries. For the first one, Mommy graduated from college; for number two, we bought a house; on the third anniversary we had Mylie; and now for the fourth one, Mommy is getting her Master's! We aren't going out to celebrate tonight, because Daddy has a bishopric meeting, but the three of us went out for Thai food before hand.

Mylie also discovered the joys of Sesame Street today. She hasn't shown much interest in other children's videos, such as Baby Einstein, but boy did she love Sesame Street! She laughed and laughed at Elmo, and she just curled up in her folding patio chair that Grandma Bryan, Patti & Judy got her for her birthday and watched almost the entire episode. Mommy's going to have to try really hard not to overuse this wonderful tool when she needs a break!

Thursday, June 29 We all got up early this morning so Daddy and Mylie could drive Mommy down to Kent to meet her carpool to central Washington for class. Mommy will be staying there overnight, and Daddy is taking two days off work just to stay home with Mylie! He did have a meeting for work that he did as a teleconference, and Mylie was even good enough to let get through most of it!

Friday, June 30 It turns out Mylie survived her first night alone with Daddy, and is no worse for the wear! Mommy got home at about 6pm today from her very last day of class ever! While she was gone, Daddy and Mylie had gone shopping and surprised Mommy with flowers and a gift card to a local salon for a day of pampering!
