Mylie-isms for August
August 3, 2007 We finally got in today for Mylie's 2-year check up
(oops, can you say slacker mom?). Mylie was AMAZING. She didn't even cry
when she got her shot, which shocked even the nurse! And we found out that
not only is she in the 95th percentile for head size (no surprise there),
but she's also 95th for height (at just over 36 inches)! BIG surprise!
And she weighed in at 28lbs, putting her in the 75th percentile for weight.
From this information, one internet site predicts her adult height at 5' 8"!
Now that's something to write home about when your mom is only 5 feet tall!
August 4, 2007 Today we loaded up all three girls, Madilyn, Mylie & Emma
and took them to the Celebrate Hillsboro festival. We quickly realized we weren't
up for much community socializing with the three girls, but they did have some
fun at the recycled crafts tent. Then we headed back to the car and went to a park
for lunch. That was a much better idea.
August 6, 2007 Mommy loaded up all the girls today and headed for Seattle.
We were going to take the Nash's back to their parents, and so Mommy can spend the
week working in the stores for Cheri. Although the girls didn't sleep in the car,
they were more or less pleasant...at least while the food kept coming. They probably
ate their body weight in snacks, which finally ran out once we reached Fife (oh, so close),
and that's when Madilyn melted down. We hurried and worked our way north as fast as
possible until we were able to meet Stacey at the airport. Luckily, Stacey brought more
treats for the girls - in the form of Pez dispensers! Both girls were infatuated by the
toys/candy and went through 3 packs of Pez (each) between the airport and Puyallup!
August 7, 2007 Mylie spent some more quality time with Madilyn this week
when Stacey watched her while Mommy was at work. As Jeremy so aptly put it, it's not
so much "babysitting" as "refereeing". And oh, how true that is. A few times, Darren
picked Mylie up from Stacey's in his convertible mini, and Mylie soon refused to
let him drive anywhere until he put down the top (or "window" as she referred to it).
Don't get any ideas kiddo!
August 11, 2007 Ever since we moved to Hillsboro, Daddy has been waiting to
see the annual airshow. Well, we hurried back from Seattle last night so that we
could be here to experience it with him. And though we weren't brave enough to
buy tickets for a two year old to go sit in the hot sun all day, we did go find
some very nice locations outside the airshow and got spectacular views of the planes,
and especially of the Blue Angels. Daddy was in heaven, and Mylie, though she
spent most of the day with her ears plugged, really had a great time too. Probably
her favorite part of the day, however, was in the morning where we got to see the
planes skywriting right outside our back door. Oh, and getting to play with Daddy's
binoculars.
August 15, 2007 Today was Brayden's birthday, and we celebrated by joining
him and Landon at Pump It Up - an inflatable toy haven. The kids had an great time
running free and jumping till their heart's content. Mylie especially had a good time
roaring at the attendends under Landon's tutelage. Luckily, the attendends were good sports,
and roared right back.
August 16, 2007 Today we had Kelly Cherry's baby, Kaytlynn, over for the day.
Though it was slightly cloudy, Mommy decided to walk with the girls to the park after
Kaytlynn woke up from her morning nap. Well, we had no sooner reached the park then
it started sprinkling. Mommy covered the baby with a blanket while she fed her a bottle,
and let Mylie go play, although the other kids were packing up to head home. About two
seconds later, Mylie did a face plant on the pavement and got skid marks across her
forehead. Mommy had to quickly hand Kaytlynn over to the only other adult in the park,
who was gracious enough to help. It must have really hurt Mylie, because she took much
longer to stop crying than usual. Finally she was better and wanted to go play some more.
THis time she made it all the way to the other side of the play structure before
biffing it again, this time cutting open her lip. Mommy, quite defeated at this point,
decided we should head home. She strapped both girls back in the stroller, let Kaytlynn
finish her bottle from there, and then headed home. Well, the park was a nice thought
anyway.
August 18, 2007 Mylie got to see her very first live-action musical today, and
it was a major hit! Of course, it was only a 30-minute production, and all of the music
was had been sped up, so as not to loose the kiddies attention. But nevertheless, The
Jungle Book is now one of her favorite stories. She loves to talk about all the animals
she saw, and she does a very good tiger impersonation. AND she got to get some autographs
afterward, and even decided that Baloo the Bear needed a hug. Boy, why didn't we bring
our camera?
August 20, 2007 Today was Daddy's birthday! Mylie LOVES LOVES LOVES birthdays, and
she spend most of the day saying "Happy You, Daddy!" whether he was home or not. And the
highlight of the day was having Mylie help bake Daddy's birthday cake. True, a storebought
cake would have looked, and probably tasted much better, but how can your heart not be
melted by a toddler who tells you "I mixed!" and then points to the very pink frosting
that she made for her Daddy? True, most of the frosting ended up on her, and never quite
covered the whole cake, but all had quite a bit of fun.
August 21, 2007 Daddy had the day off today because of a reorganization in his
company. And Troy and Rachelle were in town as well, so we all headed downtown to meet
them. We walked around the mall for awhile (one of Mylie's FAVORITE activities) before
hopping on the MAX (another favorite) and heading to another mall. When we had decided
there wasn't anything worthwhile at either place, Daddy and Mylie headed home for nap
time while Mommy got to spend some time with Rachelle.
August 23, 2007 Katie Bittleston came over this evening while her parents went
to a production of Fiddler on the Roof. It was so much fun, because Katie and Mylie
get along better than Mylie does with almost any other girl her age. They're both pretty
laid back in each other's presence, and so we took a walk to the park and hung out,
and things went suprisingly smoothly.
August 25, 2007 Tonight was Mommy & Daddy's turn to go to Fiddler on the Roof,
so Mylie went to Katie's house this time. It was our first night out by ourselves for
awhile, and we had a great time - complete with dinner! Nice.
August 27, 2007 Another baby doctor appointment today, which just thrills Mylie
to no end. She gets very excited about getting to go, and today she got to press the
button on the sonogram machine to listen to the heartbeat. She calls the baby "Baby
Tummy" and has started liking to watch baby birth stories on TV. She always demands
to watch more Baby Tummy stories. Maybe she really is understanding what's going on
here.
August 30, 2007 We drove down to Grammie's house today to spend the weekend
with her and uncle Cody, since Cody's birthday is coming up. Grammie always has such
fun things for Mylie to play with, but the most fun she had was playing in Grammie's
fountains in her yard. She walked back and forth between the two for a good half hour,
washing her hands in both. In the evening, we got to experience the world's most
incredible thunder shower. Mylie was excited by the thunder, and suprisingly not that
scared. She would just tell us, "Boom Boom Boom," which she learned from her favorite
book at the moment, Mr. Brown Can Moo, by Dr. Seuss. After we put her to bed,
the thunder and lightening really picked up, and came very close. It peaked with one
bolt that hit so close to the yard that the thunder was simultaneous, and cracked
louder than I have ever heard. That one did wake Mylie up, so she got to come and ride
out the rest of the storm in the living room with us. She continues to talk about
the Boom Boom at Grammies house.
August 31, 2007 Ever since we started swimming lessons shortly after
Mylie's first birthday, she's been kind of aquaphobic. She likes baths, of
course, but swimming pools are another issue. Both last summer and this summer
during lessons, she pretty much clung to my neck, although by the end of
the two weeks this year she had made some progress. So today when Grammie got
off work early and we decided to go to the pool, I didn't have very high
expectations. But it was a really nice day, so we headed out to the outdoor
pool, which had a great wading area with water toys, as well as a little tiny
kid slide, and a great big giant water slide. And suddenly, Mylie was a new
person. She was running all over, swimming, blowing bubbles, jumping off the
edge, going down the little slide, and back and forth, all by herself. And
then she decided she wanted to do the big slide. So, we hiked all the way to
the top, and I was sure she'd chicken out up there or once we were about
half way down. But once again, I was proven wrong. She cackled and laughed
all the way down, shouting things like "woo hoo!" and "yee haw" and my
favorite "kowabunga!" Once out, she immediately wanted to do it again. I
obliged, but after that tried my best to steer her in another direction.
I'm not sure baby brother was a huge fan of the slide. I managed to hold her
off until right before we were going to leave (two hours later! I NEVER thought
we'd be there that long), when she managed to talk me into going down one more
time. Who is this kid?
